What Happens If You Stop Using Minoxidil?

Quick answer: If you stop minoxidil, any hair it was helping to maintain usually sheds over the following months and your hair tends to return to where it would have been without it. Minoxidil works only while you use it, so speak to a doctor or pharmacist before stopping and consider what you will do instead.
Why it reverses
Minoxidil supports hair while it is being applied. It does not change the underlying cause of pattern hair loss.
Planning to stop
If side effects or cost are the reason, ask about other strengths, formats or alternatives.
Other options
Some people move to a cosmetic or procedural option. Compare them on hair transplant alternative and our treatment page.
